In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some basics on the important decision factors to consider while selecting a new PC workstation. There are several factors to consider when choosing different components in a new PC workstation and your choices will impact everything from your final cost to how the machine will perform over time for your various needs.

At Simply NUC, we’re proud to offer a wide selection of stationary and mobile business workstations that provide incredible richness, high reliability, and amazing performance for the heaviest workloads.  We’re happy to assist you with any part of your workstation purchase needs, from helping you configure a custom workstation based on your unique needs to providing you with guidance on how to maintain high performance of your PC for years to come.

What are some of the other important factors to evaluate as you look to purchase a new PC workstation?  Here are several to consider.

Ram Considerations

RAM, short for Random-Access Memory, serves as a vital source for “short-term” volatile memory in your computer.  RAM provides rapid access to information your computer is actively using.  Anytime you open a file, load a program, browse the internet, or perform other everyday tasks, the data will be loaded into RAM.  When your computer is turned off, RAM is erased and will be re-used again during your next session.

This means that the more RAM your machine has, the more complex tasks it will be able to carry out simultaneously.  And faster RAM will have the capability to access your data in a more responsive manner.  When combined with processing power, RAM is one of the single most important factors determining the speed and performance of the PC.  RAM is typically specified in capacity (gigabytes) and speed (gigahertz).   Finally for systems where high reliability is required, ECC (error correction code) memory should be considered.  ECC memory is used in workstations that need to be resistant to data corruption and system crashes.

Storage Capabilities

RAM is your short-term memory, but it’s also important to consider your “long-term” non-volatile storage.  This is where all files, programs, applications, drivers, and operating system will reside on your PC workstation.  This information is retained whether your workstation is on or off.

PC workstations can start at 128GB of storage, but most will be upgraded to meet your needs based on the amount and type of content you require.  Typically, 250GB can hold more than 30,000 photos or songs.  If you’re planning on storing videos, complex CAD files, or high resolution images on your PC workstation, you’ll likely want to upgrade to at least 500GB of storage.  PC workstations from Simply NUC can provide up to 16TB of storage.

Accessory Enhancements

Finally, it’s important to think about accessories that will enhance how your PC workstation operates.  Here are some key accessories you’ll want to consider:

  • Graphics Card:  GPU matters as much as, or sometimes even more than the CPU.  For content creation, medical imaging, CAD work, and several more graphics intensive usages, graphics card selection becomes a critical part of selecting your PC workstation.
  • Network Connectivity: Today’s PC workstation needs at least 2.5Gbps Etherent capability with some considerations for multiple LAN ports or speeds up to 10Gbps.
  • Monitor: Desktop monitors are the screens used to display your data. They’re usually sold separately from the primary PC unit, and will be available from a wide variety of brands. When selecting a monitor ideal for your setup, consider factors like resolution, I/O ports, size, and cost.  Most modern workstation environments require the ability to connect to two to six monitors.
  • Mouse and mousepad: It’s also important to choose a quality mouse for your desktop workstation and a mousepad that factors in responsiveness and ergonomics.
  • Keyboard: Don’t forget about pairing your workstation setup with a quality keyboard – make your choice based on size, key press style, cost, ergonomics and any other factors that are important to you.

This Form is part of the Website GEO selection Popup, used to filter users from different countries to the correct Simply NUC website. The Popup & This Form mechanism is now fully controllable from within our own website, as a normal Gravity Form. Meaning we can control all of the intended outputs, directly from within this form and its settings. The field above uses a custom Merge Tag to pre-populate the field with a default value. This value is auto generated based on the current URL page PATH. (URL Path ONLY). But must be set to HIDDEN to pass GF validation.
This dropdown field is auto Pre-Populated with Woocommerce allowed shipping countries, based on the current Woocommerce settings. And then being auto Pre-Selected with the customers location automatically on the FrontEnd too, based on and using the Woocommerce MaxMind GEOLite2 FREE system.
